The 5-Minute Bible Study for Women: Mornings in God's Word

Hello my friends ,

Today I am reviewing The 5-Minute Bible Study for Women: Mornings in God's Word by Annie Tipton.

Do you find it hard to make time for Bible study?

You intend to do it, but before you know it, another week has passed and you haven’t picked up God’s Word. This book provides simple tools for you to open the Bible in the morning and dig into God's Word—even if you only have five minutes!

Minutes 1–2: Read a few verses pulled from a lengthier passage. If time allows, read the full passage listed for you in each Bible study.

Minute 3: Understand. Ponder thoughtful questions designed to help you apply the verses from the Bible to your own life. Consider these throughout your day as well.

Minute 4: Apply. Read a brief devotional based on the scripture you read. Think about what you are learning and how you can apply the scriptural truths to your own life.

Minute 5: Pray. A prayer starter will help you to begin a time of conversation with God.

The 5-Minute Bible Study for Women: Mornings in God's Word will help you establish the discipline of consistent study of scripture. You will find that even five minutes focused on scripture and prayer has the power to make a huge difference in your day. Soon you will be making time for more!

I didn’t grow up in church like a lot of my friends, and I often wondered how they came about bible studying or even doing daily devotion.

The layout for this book was very easy for me to follow. Each day you have your Key Verse which is the Bible reading then a section that breaks down the meaning called Understand. Next there is Apply which illustrates how you can apply the lesson to your own life, finally closing it ends with the section called Pray which is a guided prayer.

Overall I enjoyed this.

Hug? by Charlene Chua

Hello my friends,

Today I am reviewing Hug? by Charlene Chua.  It is a cute children’s picture book which can help children learn about boundaries.

How many hugs is too many? This girl's had enough! This humorous picture book explores compassion and the importance of setting boundaries.

After coughing up a hairball, a girl's cat doesn't feel well. So the girl offers to give her cat a hug, which makes the cat --- and the girl --- feel better. A dog notices and asks for a hug, too. Then some ducks come along asking for hugs. And a skunk . . . and a bear --- and a porcupine! One animal after another comes asking the girl for a hug until she's simply had enough. How much more of this can she take?

With spare text and wonderfully expressive illustrations, Charlene Chua has created a playful, funny picture book with an original premise. The story shows how important hugs can be to our happiness --- even the most unlikely of creatures sometimes need one! --- but that doesn't mean they're always welcome.

The book is full of laugh-out-loud moments, most of which are found in illustrations that vividly portray the girl's emotions as she grows more worn out with every encounter, encouraging visual literacy. Each spread also shows a hint of the animal that will appear next, building anticipation for what's to come. There are character education connections here to compassion, tolerance and empathy, and a terrific opportunity for discussions about boundaries.
I am a hugger but their are times people don’t want to be hugged or even I don’t want to be. I thought it was great idea to discuss with little ones.I loved the illustrations they are cute, bright and engaging.

Overall I thought this was a fantastic book for young children .

Death of a Wicked Witch by Lee Hollis

Hello my cozy friends,

Today I am reviewing “Death of a Wicked Witch” by Lee Hollis the 13th instalment in the Haley Powell Food and Cocktails Mystery series.

Bar Harbor, Maine, is quieter in the off-season, but the population has just increased a bit with the arrival of Ted and Trudy Lancaster. Ted’s taking over for a retiring minister, and Trudy runs a food truck called Wicked ’Wiches. When she stops in at the Island Times office to place an ad, Hayley happily devours the sample sub Trudy offers—and the two become fast friends.

When Trudy tragically dies in her truck while catering a Halloween party, suspicion falls on a cranky, competitive caterer who’d made veiled threats to Trudy. But the case becomes more complicated when Hayley’s husband admits he’d seen someone dressed as a witch hurrying away from the food truck—not very helpful when countless women at the party wore the same costume. Now Hayley finds herself sandwiched between witches and witnesses as she considers a smorgasbord of suspects. If she finds the killer, she’ll be a local hero . . .

Includes delectable recipes from Hayley’s kitchen!

I love this series, I have only read the last 3 but have purchased the previous 10 and hope to catch up. The stories always catch my attention and this was no exception.

I didn’t suspect the murderer until Haley did. This was a great mystery filled with lots of twists and turns. I love how Haley, Liddy and Mona they are such good friends and it sounds like they have a hoot together pulling Halloween pranks.

I highly recommend this series to all my cozy loving friends !

Goodnight Moo by Mollie Cox Bryan

Hello my cozy friends,

Today I am reviewing Goodnight Moo by Mollie Cox Bryan the 2nd instalment in the "A Buttermilk Creek Mystery" series. I really enjoy this series and have bought the first book in paperback and will buy this one when it comes out.

Welcome to Shenandoah Springs, Virginia, the bucolic small town where Brynn MacAlister keeps cows, churns cheeses—and is sharper than the ripest cheddar when it comes to solving mysteries . .

With a foster cow in her corral and a new calf on the way, Brynn MacAlister has a lot on her plate. Especially since her micro-dairy farm is hosting the first annual cheesemakers contest at this year’s summer fair. A relative newcomer, Brynn’s hoping the contest becomes a tradition, bonding her even more strongly to the community. But when a mysterious tractor accident looks suspiciously like murder, Brynn suspects someone is up to no-gouda . . .

Some folks say the lead suspect was just defending his underage daughter from a suitor more mature than a vintage provolone, but Brynn isn’t buying it. Especially when another dead body turns up and Brynn’s top cheesemaker falls under suspicion. It’s enough to make a girl bluer than her best Stilton. But not enough to stop Brynn from getting to the bottom of things. What she discovers is the small town harbors some pretty unsavory characters. And the closer Brynn gets to the killer, the deeper she gets into danger . . .
I love the main character Brynn and her cows, plus Freckles and Romeo. I found myself engrossed in the story and reading it over a few days. I still love the setting of Shenandoah Springs in the Blue Ridge Mountains, but in this story it touches on racism and how it affected Wes, nowhere seems to be immune to some forms of it it seems.

With Brynn getting hurt, her sister Becky makes an appearance and it was nice to see their relationship evolve , part of me was hoping that Becky would decide to move out to the farm and help Brynn.
It was entertaining, full of twists and turns as well as a few surprises. I suspected the killer but not till the very end .

I highly recommend this series to all my cozy loving friends.

Death at High Tide by Hannah Dennison

Hello my cozy friends,

Today I am reviewing “Death at High Tide”  by Hannah Dennison the first instalment in the "An Island Sisters Mystery" series.

Death at High Tide is the delightful first installment in the Island Sisters series by Hannah Dennison, featuring two sisters who inherit an old hotel in the remote Isles of Scilly off the coast of Cornwall and find it full of intrigue, danger, and romance.

When Evie Mead’s husband, Robert, suddenly drops dead of a heart attack, a mysterious note is found among his possessions. It indicates that Evie may own the rights to an old hotel on Tregarrick Rock, one of the Isles of Scilly.

Still grieving, Evie is inclined to leave the matter to the accountant to sort out. Her sister Margot, however, flown in from her glamorous career in LA, has other plans. Envisioning a luxurious weekend getaway, she goes right ahead and buys two tickets—one way—to Tregarrick.

Once at the hotel—used in its heyday to house detective novelists, and more fixer-upper than spa resort, after all—Evie and Margot attempt to get to the bottom of things. But the foul-tempered hotel owner claims he's never met the late Robert, even after Evie finds framed photos of them—alongside Robert's first wife—in his office. The rest of the island inhabitants, ranging from an ex-con receptionist to a vicar who communicates with cats, aren't any easier to read.

But when a murder occurs at the hotel, and then another soon follows, frustration turns to desperation. There’s no getting off the island at high tide. And Evie and Margot, the only current visitors to Tregarrick, are suspects one and two. It falls to them to unravel secrets spanning generations—and several of their own—if they want to make it back alive.

I thought this was a great start to a new series. I found myself engrossed in the story and reading it in one sitting. It’s starts of a little slow in the beginning but when they get to the island it really picks up.

The characters of Evie and Margot couldn’t be more different but at the end you start to see that Margot is so bad.  I loved Mister Tig the tuxedo cat!  There were a bunch of other quirky characters on the island too.

It was entertaining, full of twists and turns as well as a few surprises.  I didn’t suspect the killer till almost the end just before Evie did.

I highly recommend this series to all my cozy loving friends.

Road Trip

Hi my friends,

Today I’m not reviewing a book but sharing some photos of Lindi's and my road trip to Vernon BC
At first Lindi was uncertain, but she had her thunder jacket on and soon settled in for the ride.  We drove straight to Field BC where we went for a short walk ... it’s very beautiful there
Then we went on to Golden BC and made another quick stop.
But Lindi really perked up when we got to Sicamous BC and she saw the lake!
Last stop was grandmas house, and boy was she excited ...

A Charming Deception by Tonya Kappes

Hello my cozy friends,

Today I am reviewing “A Charming Deception” the final instalment in the “Magical Cures Mystery” series by Tonya Kappes.  This was the first series I ever read by Tonya Kappes and I instantly fell in love with it and couldn’t read them fast enough.  It’s bittersweet that the series is ending but I know Tonya has some great new series ideas in the works.

Welcome to Whispering Fall where magic and mystery collide!Bubble...Bubble...June Heal and Oscar Park are beyond thrilled with the upcoming arrival of their baby.

Cures and Trouble...
June's pregnancy is turning out to more at risk than anticipated and she has to go to a specialist doctor outside of Whispering Falls where patients are nosey and hormones are raging, leaving the nurses and receptionist at their wits ends and bickering at each other.

Magic Stirs...
Poor June is put on limited activity. The baby is proving to a little mischievous and magic before it's even born and leaving the doctors a little miffed with all the different ultrasound shenanigans.

Trouble Doubles...
June's hormones have messed with her intuition and spiritual gifts, leaving her unsure of things going on around her. On one of her many doctor appointments, June arrives a little early and find the receptionist strangled to death. June can't help herself and decides to put her amateur and magical sleuthing skills to the test to try to bring the killer to justice...or are her hormones deceiving her?

I am sad that this series is ending, but I do love the way it ended As I am hoping maybe some of the characters can crossover and visit in one of the other series... maybe the new Magical Bakery series.

I found myself reading over several days, maybe cause I wanted prolong my stay in Whispering Falls.  It had become my wonderful escape when times were bleak, and made me into the fan I am for Tonya’s books.

It was entertaining, funny, full of twists and turns as well as a few surprises. I usually can suspect the whodunnit but in this case the murderer and the reason for the murder were a huge surprise.

I highly recommend this series to all my cozy loving friends.

Read or Alive by Nora Page

Hello my cozy friends,

Today I am reviewing
“Read or Alive” by Nora Page the 3rd instalment in the Bookmobile Mystery series.  It was an entertaining read, with a wonderful cast of characters.

Two wrongful accusations has librarian Cleo Watkins and her loved ones booked for trouble.

It's springtime and septuagenarian librarian Cleo Watkins is celebrating new blooms and old books. To her delight, the Georgia Antiquarian Book Society has brought its annual fair to Catalpa Springs in honor of Cleo's gentleman friend, respected antiquarian bookseller and restorer, Henry Lafayette. But trouble rolls in with the fair when a flirtatious book scout makes the rounds, charming ladies of a certain age out of prized books.

Among the conned is Cleo's cousin, Dot, who relinquished a signed first edition of Gone With the Wind. With no proof the scout took it, Dot is at a loss. And when he's found dead the very next morning, without Dot's first edition or other valuable books reported missing in his belongings, Dot's freedom is on the line. Cleo is flummoxed in discovering too that the scout's body is found behind Henry's shop, and the murder weapon identified to be Henry's bookbinding hammer.

Although books are at the heart of the crimes, Cleo feels dizzyingly out of her depths. Someone is setting up the people she holds dearest and with the authorities on the wrong trail, Cleo has no choice but to catalog the evidence herself. Along with the help of her trusty bookmobile cat Rhett Butler, it will be up to Cleo to book the real killer for good.

I was happy to be visiting Catalpa Springs, Georgia again, I really like small town southern setting.  Cleo is an older protagonist but I like my cozies with older sleuths rather than always young.  Now who can resist Cleo’s cat, Rhett Butler, and Henry’s old pug, Mr. ChaucerI am a sucker for fur babies in my mysteries.

The mystery is interesting and well plotted, and I loved the characters which are well developed.  There were plenty of suspects from locals to visitors and twists and turn to keep you guessing on who dunit.

Includes a yummy cookie recipe too.

I highly recommend this series to all my cozy loving friends.
