Died in the Wool - A Whisky Business Mystery by Melinda Mullet

Today I am discussing a new series to me by Melinda Mullet, Died in the Wool is the 5th installment in the A Whisky Business Mystery series. This was the first time I had read one of Melinda's books and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This can be read as a stand-alone but I recommend reading the earlier books.

This was the first time I had read one of Melinda's books and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The protagonist Abigail is a strong independent woman but she seems to find trouble at every turn.  I enjoyed the relationship between Amanda and Patrick and her blossoming romance with Grant.

The mystery was well written and carries through the entire story. There were a couple of twists and turns that I didn't see coming but I did guess the killer halfway through. The author brought all the characters to life for me and I really love a book that makes me feel like I can see everything in my minds eye.

I cannot wait to read the next book in this series, and I highly recommend this series to all my cozy mystery loving friends.

Today I am reviewing "Left Fur Dead" by J.M. Griffin the first book in theA Jules & Bun Mystery series.  It is a great start to a new series and I enjoyed it a lot.

Bun is a black-and-white rabbit who happens to have the ability to communicate through mental telepathy. Once she got over the shock, Jules found her furry friend had a lot to say.

One frigid March morning on their walk together, Bun spots a body. The police identify the frozen stiff as Arthur Freeman, aka Arty the Mime. Jules and Arty knew each other on the children's party circuit, where he’d perform magic tricks and she had an educational rabbit petting pen. With Bun egging her on, Jules decides it’s time they hop to it and put their heads together to discover who silenced the mime. But their investigation leads them down a rabbit hole of more suspects and lies, while a killer sets a trap for them...

This is the first time I have read anything by JM Griffin and I am glad I gave it a go. Left Fur Dead is a very entertaining story full of twists and turns, a few red herrings that hold your attention from the very beginning.

Protagonist Jules is likeable and I liked Bun (bunny) who is intelligent and communicates with Jules telepathically. I could really relate to this as I always talked to my cats as well as talk to my dog when out walking I get funny looks, so I could see how it could be embarrassing, especially with local law enforcement! There are other interesting characters to round things out like Jess and Molly. I personally can't wait for the next installment.

The Black Cat Steps on a Crack by Kay Finch

Today I am reviewing "The Black Cat Steps on a Crack" by Kay Finch the fourth book in the Bad Luck Cat Mystery series.  I enjoyed this book and have purchased the previous three books so I can start at the beginning and be all caught up.

Even though I haven't read the previous books in this series, it didn't cause a problem as this can be read as a stand-alone.  I think this will be one of my favorite cat mystery series.  

I like the Protagonist Sabrina Tate a mystery writer and her black cat Hitchcock who once again are at the center of a murder.  I appreciated the focus the author put on the stigma associated with black cats as my mum was actually just telling me how in the UK they are lucky! 

The characters are well developed and very likeable, such as her Aunt Rowe and who doesn't love a cat named Hitchcock.  I enjoyed the small town setting of Lavender, Texas 

There are plenty of twists and turns to keep me wanting to find out what will happen next. The book is engaging from start to finish, grabbing you from the very beginning. I cant wait for the fifth installment in this series, I recommend this to cozy lovers.
