Knot Ready for Murder by Mary Marks

Hello my cozy friends,

Today I am reviewing “Knot Ready for Murder” the 9th instalment in the Quilting Mystery series by Mary Marks. I thoroughly enjoyed visiting with Martha and her Tuesday quilting bee again.

Before quilter Martha Rose can tie the knot to Crusher, she has to track down his missing first wife...

One loose thread threatens to unravel Martha's wedding plans: the groom-to-be married a pregnant teen to save her from scandal thirty years ago--and the marriage was never annulled. Now Crusher's wife Hadas is coming to LA, along with his sister Fanya. But soon after she arrives, their houseguest goes missing, with her room ransacked and a chloroform-soaked cloth left behind. Could her apparent abduction be connected to her brother's unsolved death from a hit-and-run six months ago? Martha and her quilting cohorts must find the pattern to solve the twin mysteries and determine if Crusher is still married--or now a widower...

Have I said how much I love this series and Martha Rose! Crushers “wife” Hadas and his sister Fanya show up from New York and chaos ensues but Martha Rose is determined to get to the bottom of it and divorce papers signed.

Protagonist Martha Rose, is a strong, educated woman, and the side characters are realistic, slightly quirky too like her friend Birdie and Jazz.  The story mostly focused on Martha Rose and the guests from New York but her friends were there when it counted.  I think Fanya will be a good addition to the Tuesday Quilting Bee family.

I found myself engrossed in the story and reading it in one day. It was entertaining, full of twists and turns as well as a few surprises. I even learnt about Jewish customs and quilting tips which is always a bonus.

I look forward to reading the next installment in this series.

Wildlife, Warrants & Weapons By Tonya Kappes

Hello my cozy friends,

Today I am reviewing “Wildlife, Warrants & Weapons” the 19th instalment in the "Camper & Criminals “ Mystery series by Tonya Kappes.  I absolutely love this series, and can’t get enough of Mae West and the Laundry Club Ladies.

It creams my corn to think I've been accused of murder.

I'm a handyman in the Daniel Boone National Park. My main employer is Mae West at the Happy Trails Campground.

When I got a phone call to take down some trees on this guy's property for a side hustle, I jumped at the chance. That's one of the biggest money making jobs around these parts.

Unfortunately I got hauled off to jail after I was accused of being part of an illegal logging crew. Simple enough, I gave Sheriff Hank Sharp the name of the man who hired me, only he was found murdered by one of my tools.

Not only am I accused of illegal logging, now I'm the number one suspect in this man's murder.

It just creams my corn to be accused of murder.

There's only one person I trust to get me out of this mess and that's Maybelline West.  I'm sure she, along with her nosy friends, the Laundry Club Ladies, will snoop around to help clear my name.

This was a very quick read, I found myself engrossed in the mystery and wanting to have answers to a few questions from the last book.  For me personally this book was more about wrapping up loose ends with certain relationships as well ad hints into others personal lives eg: Bettes 

Now I have new thoughts swirling around in my mind like “How will the dynamics be with Amy newly married and Mae not having her or Bobby at her beck and call... “  Like in real life things don’t always have a fairytale ending but in the long run we know it’s for the best …

The mystery was good and we learned a lot about forestry and the environment. As always Tonya did her research. We are introduced to the new Ranger and I can’t wait to learn more about him and see how he fits in with the gang I have grown to love.

I’m full of anticipation/excitement for Book 20 as I want to know more about what’s in store for Mae! 

I highly recommend you read this series from the beginning and enjoy the escapism as much as I do.

Ruff and Tumble by Chelsea Thomas

Hello my cozy friends, 

Today I am reviewing “Ruff and Tumble” by Chelsea Thomas, the 2nd instalment in the Dog Groomer Mystery series.  This is a spin off from their popular Apple Orchard Mystery series which features Amy the dog groomer and her poker loving Granny Petunia.  

Every dog has his day. And so does every person. 

“This new series from Chelsea Thomas is just as good as the apple orchard series. Read it for humor, heart and plenty of cute little animals!”

Amy opened a pet salon in her quaint hometown, just outside of Hollywood, and she’s cleaned up every dog in the village. 

Well, almost every dog.

There’s a Hollywood mogul living up in the hills who refuses to have her little chihuahua groomed. The woman says she doesn’t trust anyone with her precious fur baby, but Amy wears her down, and schedules an in-home grooming appointment.

Amy expects that the lady is going to be nicer than people say, and she looks forward to the appointment. But when Amy arrives for the grooming…

…the woman is dead.

When the cops arrive, the body of the Hollywood mogul is nowhere to be found! Amy realizes she’s going to have to solve this murder or no one else will, so she and her grumpy Granny take the case.

Within days, the ladies start getting warnings. “Stay away.” “Don’t look for something you don’t want to find.” “You’re next.”

Will our heroes catch the killer on time, or will they be victims number two and three? 

I really enjoy the main characters and their interactions with each other had me laughing a couple times.  I love the relationship that the trio of Amy, Petunia and Betsy have together. Betsy, reminds me of Teeny from the original series providing the comedic moments. I did find the banter distracting sometimes or a bit much but I still enjoyed the mystery.

I really enjoy hearing fluffy the cat tell his story every other chapter. This time it was a mini mystery of how Lucky the dog was getting treats.

The plot is very good it pulled me in right away and moves at a steady pace.  I thought I had identified the killer early in the book but as I read on there were red herrings galore that I second guessed myself. 

I highly recommend this series to all my fellow cozy mystery lovers.
