Dying to Read Lynn Cahoon

Hello my cozy friends,

Today I am reviewing “Dying to Read” by Lynn Cahoon book 5 in the Survivors  Book Club Mystery series. I love this series, it’s entertaining full of loveable characters and a furbaby named Killer.
Bookshop owner and cancer survivor Rarity Cole loves her life in Sedona, Arizona—the community of healing she’s found; her adorable Yorkie, Killer; and the friends she’s made in the survivors’ book club. Now one of them needs her help because her husband’s been accused of murder . . .

When her week begins, Rarity expects the biggest mystery she’ll need to solve is how a rare first edition of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland ended up in her bookstore bathroom. But after book club member Shirley tells her that her husband George, who has dementia, is the prime suspect in a nursing home murder, Rarity feels as if she’s stepped through the looking glass.

As someone who’s been given a second chance at life, Rarity wishes her friend Shirley a second chance at love. But Shirley has rebuffed her senior suitor Terrance out of loyalty to George, even though he no longer knows who she is. Except guess who’s the second suspect? Shirley’s caught between two men—and it’s up to Rarity and the survivor sleuths to determine if one of them is capable of cold-blooded murder . . .
Once again the story was engaging, well-written, and I love the setting in the desert town of Sedona Arizona.

Rarity is someone I would love to be friends with or work at her bookstore, and the friends she made were people I would like to hang out with especially Sam, Shirley, Archer and Drew.  I found myself thoroughly enjoying the story and I found the 2 romance/life situations making me care even more for the characters as these are things that happen to a lot of us.  My mother in law has dementia and I see first hand what it can do to their spouse and the loneliness it can cause.

I devoured this book and can't wait for the next instalment!

I highly recommend this cozy mystery series to all my friends who love a cozy with a strong support system of friends in it.

Love Blooms at Hollyhock Farm by Georgina Troy

Hello my cozy friends,

Today I am reviewing "Love Blooms at Hollyhock Farm" by Georgina Troy. What can I say other than I enjoyed it and read in one day.  Who doesn’t want to escape to a small farm on an island in the English Channel…

Spring has sprung—and so have sparks at Hollyhock Farm!

After an amazing year looking after Hollyhock Farm, on the beautiful island of Jersey, pregnant Lettie needs to step back from farming. The problem is, with her family overseas, there’s no one to take over.

But then help comes from two places at once. Handsome fire-fighter Joe needs to escape his small home since his mother and her new husband came to stay; he offers to help run the farm in exchange for board in one of the spare rooms. Then, adventurous newcomer Skye takes the other room, excited to try her hand at farming in such an amazing place.

But managing the farm together may be more than either of them bargained for, especially as each of them drives the other crazy, in more ways than one. Will the tension get too much for Joe and Skye, or could love bloom with the Jersey flowers this spring?

The setting of a small farm on the Island of Jersey sounded breathtaking.  It had everything you could want in a story love, family, community and second chances.

I found the characters to be well developed, and multi-dimensional.  You have Skye looking for her father  on the island and then the fireman Joe who all wanted to help Lettie with the farm while her parents were away.  The story was told from  Skye’s perspective as well as Joe’s .

I will definitely read other books by this author.

Shot Through the Book Eva Gates

Hello my cozy friends,

Today I am reviewing "Shot Through the Book ” the 12th instalment in the "Lighthouse Library" Mystery series by Eva Gates. I love this series and couldn’t wait to visit Nag’s Head and the Bodie Island Lighthouse library in the Outer Banks of N.C. Again.

In the twelfth installment of the Lighthouse Library mysteries, Lucy McNeil is back on the case, but this time she’s on the case alone.

The upcoming YA book festival at the Bodie Island Lighthouse Library is bringing in renowned authors from all over the world. When best selling author Todd Harrison unexpectedly visits librarian Lucy McNeil at her Outer Banks beach house after a meeting, she is puzzled by his presence, since they’re virtually strangers. After she steps inside to get him a drink, she’s shocked to discover that he’s been murdered on her deck in the few minutes she left him alone.

Not knowing why he wanted to meet with her in private, or how someone managed to kill him in the time it takes to make lemonade, Lucy is determined to help with the investigation and figure out what happened. WhenHeather Harrison, Todd’s widow, shows up in town, her motivations aren’t inspired by grief. She’s intending to use her husband’s tragic death to launch her candidacy for state senator and her first order of business is to go after the local police force–and Lucy herself.

Caught between an intrusive fan club mourning Todd, squabbling authors fighting for prominence in his absence, and a politically ruthless widow, Lucy must roll up her sleeves and and catch the killer before the chapter closes on justice.

This time the story is more centered around a YA book festival and author Todd Harrison who subsequently dies.

The mystery is interesting and well plotted, and I loved the characters which are well developed.  I kept guessing and second-guessing myself on whodunnit right to the very end.

I can't wait for the next instalment!  I highly recommend this book to all my cozy mystery loving friends.

The Lighthouse Daughters of Puffin Island by Christie Barlow

Hello my cozy friends,

Today I am reviewing The Lighthouse Daughters of Puffin Island by Christie Barlow.  What can I say other than I loved it and read in one day.

Puffin Island – when the tides turn, true friends are never apart

'Full of warmth' #1 Sunday Times Bestseller Katie Fforde

A blast from her past…

Having narrowly avoided losing everything to her romance scammer ex, artist Delilah Waters is done with men and focused entirely on her quest to buy Puffin Island’s magical lighthouse. It’s a crucial piece of her own family’s history and the perfect space to turn into her home. But then Max Harrington walks through her door.

…puts her future in question.

Her feelings for her former art teacher might have been forbidden at the time, but now he’s back, and single, and there’s no denying that the attraction is mutual! But when something seems too good to be true, it normally is, and Dilly soon makes a shocking discovery that changes everything for her and Max. Now she’ll have to call upon the same fortitude as her beloved lighthouse if she’s to weather the storm headed her way…

The setting of Puffin Island, with its stunning surroundings and strong sense of community, creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. The characters are well-developed and multi-dimensional, making it easy to become invested in their stories.

The book has multiple sub-plots that keep you engaged and curious about the outcome. At its core, it's a story about resilience, friendship, and love, as the protagonist navigates a journey of self-discovery after facing significant challenges.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author. I highly recommend this author and series.

I requested and received an advance reader copy of this book from One More Chapter and Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Vice and Virtue by Libby Klein

Hello my cozy friends,

Today I am reviewing Vice and Virtue by Libby Klein book one in A Layla Virtue Mystery series. First in new series by Libby Klein, I really enjoyed it and can’t wait for book 2!

Layla Virtue, a blue-haired, 30-something recovering alcoholic and former cop is trying to reinvent herself as a musician—between AA meetings, dodging eccentric neighbors at her trailer park, and reconnecting with her mysterious dad—in this unforgettable new mystery brimming with hilarity and heart for readers of Margot Douaihy, Jane Pek, and Darynda Jones.

Layla is taking her new life one day at a time from the Lake Pinecrest Trailer Park she now calls home. Being alone is how she likes it. Simple. Uncomplicated. Though try telling that to the group of local ladies who are in relentless pursuit of Layla as their new BFF, determined to make her join them for coffee and donuts.

Meanwhile, since her first career ended in a literal explosion, Layla’s trying to eke out a living as a rock musician. It’s not easy competing against garage bands who work for tacos and create their music on a computer, while all she has is an electric guitar and leather-ish pants. But Layla isn’t in a position to turn down any gig. Which is why she’s at an 8-year-old’s birthday party, watching as Chuckles the Clown takes a bow under the balloon animals. No one expects it will be his last . . .

Who would want to kill a clown—and why? Layla and her unshakable posse are suddenly embroiled in the seedy underbelly of the upper-class world of second wives and trust fund kids, determined to uncover what magnetic hold a pudgy, balding clown had over women who seem to have everything they could ever want. Then again, Layla knows full well that people are rarely quite what they seem—herself included . . .
What a great start to a new cozy mystery series it was engaging, really well-written, and set in Potomac, Virginia. As most of my friends know I’m a fan girl of Libby’s books and I can see this series becoming another favourite.

I loved the character of Layla with all her faults and insecurities plus her new friends and who can forget Ringo

The mystery had lots of twists and turns with plenty of suspects who wanted the victim dead. I didn’t suspect the killer at all!

I highly recommend this cozy mystery series to all my friends who love a cozy with a strong support system of friends in it.

A River Enchanted by Rebecca Ross

A River Enchanted (Elements of Cadence, #1)A River Enchanted by Rebecca Ross
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I deviated from my usual reading preferences to dive into "A River Enchanted", a fantasy novel infused with Scottish folklore as it was our March book club pick. This book shattered my expectations with its exquisite writing, enthralling storyline, and captivating characters.

The author had me hooked from the first chapter as she masterfully weaves a tale that seamlessly blends fantasy and folklore, creating a rich and immersive world. There were several wonderful characters in the story but I did love Adaira and Jack the most. Adaira and Jack's journeys are expertly crafted, that you couldn’t help becoming invested in their stories. Their complexities and vulnerabilities make them relatable and endearing.

Upon finishing "A River Enchanted", I immediately ordered the second book and can’t wait to read it tomorrow night. The cliffhanger ending left me eager to discover what's next for Adaira and Jack.

If you're a fan of fantasy, folklore, or simply exceptional storytelling, "A River Enchanted" is a must-read. Be prepared to be enchanted by this captivating series.
